Safety

At Barber Brothers, “Nobody Gets Hurt” means just that — no incidents and no injuries, no matter how seemingly minor. Family and friends who care about us and count on us, need us to stay safe at work. Caring about our co-workers, clients and the traveling public requires us to keep our jobsites as safe as possible. We believe that nothing is more important to our family and our community.

Our safety culture defines us and sets us apart. Everyone working at Barber Brothers understands that responsibility for job-site safety is everyone’s responsibility — we all take accountability for ourselves, our co-workers, project partners and the public surrounding our jobsites. Each employee — regardless of job or location — has the responsibility to speak up when they see anything that causes a safety concern. That, combined with employee engagement, our leadership’s commitment to the safest possible work environment, and embracing the tools we have readily available, sets the foundation for our “Nobody Gets Hurt” culture.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AT ALL LEVELS

Barber Brothers employees are passionate about safety. Every person at every level is authorized — and expected — to speak up when they see someone or something that concerns them, or if something isn’t in line with our safety standards.  We educate, encourage and engage our employees at every level so as to reinforce the understanding that safety is everyone’s job all the time.

ACTIVE COMMITMENT BY MANAGEMENT

Leadership has a special responsibility when it comes to safety. The Barber Brothers management team is intensely committed to safety — seen not only through words, but actions. Our leaders at all levels, create the proper environments where people can’t help but do the right thing, every time, even when nobody is looking. Educate, discuss, encourage, engage and reinforce is how we integrate our safety culture into our work and our behavior.

THE TOOLS WE USE

Since 1928, we have used tools empowering employees to take an active role in creating a safe workplace. Safety training, observation programs and job hazard analyses are just some of the tools and procedures we use companywide to help employees prevent incidents from ever occurring. Family takes care of family, and Barber Brothers Contracting is committed to returning every employee to their families and friends at the end of each and every day of work.
